Link: Pharmexa Starts Phase II Trial in Breast Cancer.
Excerpt: "The HER-2 Protein AutoVac(TM) vaccine has been designed to generate an antibody response against the HER-2 protein, which is over-expressed in many cancer forms including some breast cancers. Pharmexa has previously reported promising Phase I data showing that the vaccine is safe and capable of generating an antibody response.
"This Phase I trial was not intended to show tumor response. As a next step in the development of the vaccine, the current Phase II trial will investigate the clinical benefit of the vaccine. In addition further investigations of the vaccine's ability to generate the desired antibody responses will be made. "
I'll be watching this as my cancer was her-2 positive.
I participated in HER-2 Protein AutoVac phase I clinic trial at Magee Women's Hosp in Pittsburgh PA, Dr. Adam Brufsky did the trial. Before the start of the trial I had had 9 chemo session (Taxotere/Xeloda combo)and then surgery (bilateral Radical Mastectomies and Total Hysterectomy). These treatments eliminated 12 of my 19 tumors. I did the complete phase I trial for this vaccine..ended in Dec 2003. My last Pet Scan April 2005 show NO tumor active anywhere in my body. As far as I'm concerned I'M CURED !!! I'm excited for Phase II to get started and completed here in US and not just in Hungary. GlaxoSmithKline has arranged with Pharmexa (the drug developer) to obtain the drug for Phase II trials here but I haven't heard of them starting it up yet.
